Calling Our Ancestors

attention: OCT. 23.2020: Covid Caution Causes Cancellation- with tremendous community interest and registration response, we were filled beyond city-approved Maximum capacity!

Based on heightened alerts from the City of Kingston about Covid and elevated safety concerns for our community, we have considered it best to call it off. This is hard to do.

We created an opportunity to come together and get in touch with relationships that matter. We attempted to employ safety restrictions and provide PPE tools so that we could all enjoy each other’s company and be entertained by some fabulous local talent, all of whom were willing to generously contribute their time. We had even set up a streaming Facebook Live application so that those of you who could not come to Kingston could join in from home.

But recent logistics and circumstances beyond our control have made this decision for us.

We LOVE your support and value every member of our community. We need to make sure everyone stays safe. When Covid is over we will celebrate together with our Ancestors, and we’ll meet again!

Come gather with friends and loved ones at Academy Green Park in Kingston to celebrate your ancestors!

This free, safe-distanced, masked event focuses on naming and honoring those who have come before us.

Do you feel connected to your ancestors? It is said that the spirit of our ancestors matures through time. Their paths continue as we bring them close and honor the wisdom of their journey. In a time when we can’t be with family and friends or visit the places where our loved ones are buried or once lived, we can be present to who they were and how they sacrificed for us. Join us to make that connection, share their names, and bring forth a space of reverence and gratitude.

Connecting with our ancestors can be a tremendous source of healing. The ancestors we choose to celebrate may include those who recently died, some close or distant family, but also our friend families, community members, spiritual leaders, and sentient beings alike! Circle of Friends for the Dying (CFD) is providing a safe and socially distanced space—the weekend before Dias de los Muertos!–to reunite with our loved ones and with each other.

On October 25th let’s celebrate together by preparing copies of meaningful photographs of our ancestors to bring them physically to our gathering. Catskill Art Supply is offering 10% off printing with code CFD Ancestor Event at both the Kingston and Woodstock copy center locations! You can choose to pin the photographs to your clothing or place images on signs and posters. As we gather and display our ancestors, we will call out their names, their lives, and bring forth the power of their ancient knowledge. Let’s bring their legacies alive.
