Circle of Friends for the Dying actively promotes events that give people the opportunity to explore their feelings about death—such as our monthly Circle of Friends Death Cafés—and to learn about the various issues pertaining to dying, like preparing your end-of-life directives or taking advantage of hospice when the time comes. We also sponsor events to celebrate life, such as “Circlestock”, a concert and dance party. Our inaugural event was held last year at Colony in Woodstock and pictured here.

CFD Death Café via Zoom on 5/13- starts at 10:45am

May 13

Death Cafe returns to the Hudson Valley for the 61st time for a second virtual gathering via the interweb! Last month nearly 50 people joined our first virtual Death Cafe to open the 2020 season. Folks from four NY counties, along with attendees from California, Arizona, and Michigan, logged in to connect with each other and share their ideas and concerns about dying and death. The April Zoom meeting was a great success!

Plus, we’ve teamed up with Death Cafe of Westchester–along with Barbara Sarah–for this series of virtual events. We are expanding our circles despite the necessity to maintain a distance from each other. By providing an online safe space for dialoguing and sharing, Death Cafe keeps the conversation going. Join our community, and let’s hang out and talk about dying and death!

Please note: Prompt attendance is required to be admitted into the meeting. The Zoom meeting will open at 10:50 a.m. so that everyone can check in early and be ready to spend some valuable time together. A brief introduction and guidelines review will get us all started at 11 a.m. Then small groups of five or six people will break out into separate rooms for private discussions.

At Death Cafés, the aim is to increase awareness of death in order to help people make the most of their finite lives. Death Cafés are open to, and respectful of, people of all communities and belief systems. A Death Café is a group-directed conversation of death with no agenda, objectives, or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session.

Come be with us on Zoom for a virtual CFD Death Cafe on Wednesday, May 13 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Bring your tea or coffee and a plate of goodies! We’ll be seeing you soon from the glow of our computer screens!
