Our Mission

A Home for the Dying is a model of care currently thriving in multiple locations in northern New York State. There, terminally ill patients and their families can take advantage of a welcome alternative to staying in a hospital, entering a nursing facility or hiring expensive home help. This end-of-life option is not currently available in the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Our mission is to bring compassionate, competent end-of-life care to individuals and their families by providing a home and a circle of support.

Thanks to numerous heartfelt contributions and generous donations from community members like you, Circle of Friends for the Dying purchased a house in a Kingston neighborhood that will soon be transformed into Circle Home—the first of its kind in Ulster County, serving those with the greatest need and fewest options.

“The vision of establishing a ‘good place to die’ is about our innate capacity to care for one another. It is about changing the ways we think, talk about, relate to, and care for those who are dying. It’s about creating a good place to live.”
